About Us

For many years, the residents in the City of TAUFKIRCHEN (VILS), Germany, wanted to broaden understanding and opportunity for their community through a sister city relationship with an American city.

In 1997, Bodo Gsedl (resident of Taufkirchen), met with his brother Uwe (resident of West Chicago) and approached West Chicago's City Government and the Chamber of Commerce to discuss the possibility of a sister city relationship.

The City of WEST CHICAGO invited a group from Taufkirchen to visit in 1998 and the cities decided to form an official Sister City Relationship. On October 7, 1999, delegates from both cities signed an official sister cities proclamation in Taufkirchen and WEST CHICAGO SISTER CITIES was formed.

Today, the West Chicago Sister Cities organization is comprised of a group of citizens who support activities between the two cities and would like to pursue sister city relationships with other cities around the world.

Since the 1999 Sister Cities Proclamation, the citizens of TAUFKIRCHEN and WEST CHICAGO have regularly enjoyed exchange visits of individuals and groups, forming new friendships and deepening cultural understanding.
